Reading Guide
Will I need any sort of guide when reading “Gravity’s Rainbow” by Thomas Pynchon?
I’m about to start reading Gravity’s Rainbow. It’s not for class or for school, I just want to read it. I hear it’s a demanding read though, and I’m wondering if I should find or purchase some sort of guide to help me out. Will I miss a lot of things if I try to read it cold?
You don’t necessarily need a guide the first time you read Gravity’s Rainbows although a dictionary will help. Just know that you won’t understand everything the first time through and to get the full effect of this masterpiece you will have to read it again (and again).
I’m on my 3rd or 4th reading and am still discovering things I missed the first couple of times around.
