Any ideas or propositions?
I’m writting a business letter to Obama addressing the issue of homelessness. I’m almost done with it but i think i need different perspectives in what would be the solution to the problem of homelessness.
This is for my service learning, a requirement for my high school graduation, but i don’t want to get away with an unfruitful letter.
any propositions?
thank you.
PS. I thought this was a very heart warming picture to share: http://stuff.ghostblock.org/front_page/Homeless_cuddling_dog_by_Kirsten_Bole_100_dpi.jpg
I think the better way for you to put your letter to fruition would be to send it to your local community and state government. It is not the Federal Governments job to help the homeless or really any specific group of people (the old, infirm, sick, etc.), their power is strictly defined in the constitution. On the other hand, the states have no defined powers, but are given rules to follow and regulations to follow when creating laws, such as the Bill of Rights.
Although, when you just lobby the issue in your state, it means that other states won’t be solving the problem like you have prescribed in your state, but when you have the federal government forcing the states to comply, it takes away the natural right of the people in those states to self govern and prescribe a solution that they see fits better, as well as it breaks the 10th amendment.
To throw in my perspective on what should be done with the homeless it would be to set up a jobs program, not a welfare program. This jobs program would require all businesses to submit job openings to a government office, for the office to then help the homeless get one, or multiples, of the job openings. That way they are self sustaining, and not reliant on government money. It wouldn’t force people to go to the government office when they are unemployed, but it would be there for those who want to take advantage of the service. It wouldn’t force businesses to take employees it doesn’t want either, it would just be there to help people find a job.
California is a good example of what happens when you have people who just take take take take take take take TAKE from the government and never stop, and never become self sustaining. The government goes bankrupt.
You could also have your state institute a maximum work hour and a minimum work hour and a minimum wage. That way we don’t have people who only work for 3 hours and get nothing out of it, but are not working for 16 hours like slaves, and a minimum wage so that people are not working for nothing either. But you could also not do the maximum work hour and help people find several part time jobs, but then that means they might not get any benefits from their several jobs.
That is just me though.
